The sudden death of long-time Lincoln florist Jean Rohrig last October left a void in the hearts of her many friends and family, but it also left a glaring void in the Lincoln business community as the town was no longer home to Rohrig’s Buds and Blossoms flower shop located at 110 E. Elm. Angela O’Bannon hopes to fill that void, and in part, preserve Rohrig’s legacy, with the recent opening of her new flower and gift shop, Rustic Floral and Gifts.
The idea of opening a shop in Lincoln is not a recent idea for O’Bannon, but a venture she has wanted to pursue for some time.
“About four years ago I wanted to open up a shop here in Lincoln geared more towards small gifts, candy bouquets, wreaths and possibly bringing other home based businesses together in one location,” said O’Bannon. “At that time I wanted to also incorporate some grab and go flowers as well. As my husband and I were looking at the possibility of doing such we agreed that the timing was not right. Unfortunately, we have lost our florist and the need opened up here for a flower shop.”
O’Bannon does not have any prior experience in running a floral shop but she has been busying preparing herself attending a florist class in Topeka the last two months and she will attend online interaction floral classes once a month for four days for each class session.
Currently the shop is located in the former Buds and Blossoms building located at 110 East Elm in Lincoln. O’Bannon expects to move into a newly constructed shop in approximately four to five months possibly by late April or May. O’Bannon said the new work place allows “for more space, displays, gifts shop and hopefully expansion room as the business grows.” The new shop will be located two lots to the east from the current Buds and Blossoms location. The shop will face East Elm and will have an approach from Elm Street with a sidewalk leading to the front of the building.
Rustic Floral and Gifts will offer a wide arrangement of fresh flowers for all occasions including birthdays, anniversaries, funerals, weddings, prom, and numerous holidays. Along with a variety of fresh plants the shop has introduced Candy Bouquets. The candy bouquets are made to order in selected sizes and various candies, and some are made ready to grab and go. Small gifts and and other home based business inventory will be available when the new shop is open.
Customers can place orders at the former Buds and Blossoms location or call 785-524-5118.
